But that is exactly where Florence Nightingale felt her calling was---to comfort the sick, wounded and dying soldiers.

She became known as the “Lady with the Lamp” because she carried a glowing lamp as she made never-ending rounds up and down dark corridors.

Florence kept journals.  In one she recorded:  There were 4 miles of beds…4 miles of suffering.

It is a known fact that Florence Nightingale, carrying her lamp, attended alone to thousands of soldiers.  She was not able to save all that she nursed.  She comforted and helped so many, but still lost some…but she carried her lamp and did her part.

We are commissioned to carry our lamp.  We are commissioned to let it shine for God.  Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify the Father………………..

Back in the early 1800s in England, a baby girl was born..Florence Nightingale.  She grew up and received a direct call from God to care for the suffering.  It was a time when “decent” young women were not expected to work in the public, especially not in the foul, disease-ridden camps of the British military.
